Bringing local ideas to life.

Every year, we offer grants to help Queenslanders bring their ideas to life during Child Protection Week.

Whether you’re planning a fun day for families, a creative project, or a local campaign, these grants can help make it happen.

Your activity needs to take place between 6–12 September 2026.

Grants open March 2026 and close 15 May 2026

Regional Grant

Regional Grants of $5,000 (exclusive GST) are available across six regions in Queensland:

The regions are:

  • Far North Queensland
  • North Queensland
  • Sunshine Coast & Central Queensland
  • Brisbane & Moreton Bay
  • South East Queensland
  • South West Queensland

If you’re working with at least five other organisations and have a great idea for an event in your area, we’d love to hear from you.

Activity Grant

Grants of $1000 (exclusive of GST) are available to non-government organisations, community organisations and networks.

These smaller grants support local organisations and groups to host community-friendly events that support the theme: Protecting children is everybody’s business.

Great events might:

  • Share important child protection messages
  • Be family-friendly and free of alcohol or drugs
  • Encourage people to get involved in ongoing child safety efforts
  • Connect your community to local support services 

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Grant

Grants of $5,000 (excl. GST) are available to fund Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led events promoting child safety and community ties during Child Protection Week.​

Grants support events or activities that:

  • Reflect strengths, interests, and diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Align with the theme: Protecting Children is Everybody’s Business.
  • Raise awareness of child abuse and neglect.
  • Share services for children and families.
  • Build skills to respond to abuse and neglect.
  • Run across multiple locations with at least five partner organisations.
  • Occur during Queensland Child Protection Week (6–12 September 2026).​

Who Can Apply

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations (must lead).
  • Community groups, parents’ associations, playgroups, childcare centres, youth services, other non-profits.
  • Ineligible: Government agencies, previously funded projects, unrelated safety (e.g., road/water).​

Event Ideas

  • Family fun days with stalls and information booths.
  • Art exhibitions on child safety.
  • Movie nights with support services.
  • Workshops or yarning sessions on keeping kids safe

Eligibility & Examples

Examples of organisations eligible for funding under the Child Protection Week Grants include:

  • Non-Government Organisations, Neighbourhood Centres, Childcare Centres, Womens Centres, Parents and Friends/Citizens/ Associations, Police Citizens Youth Clubs, Community Playgroups, Youth Centres.
  • Organisations can only submit one application per funding round for any one location
  • Applications for funding will be considered for new and separate activities/events of existing projects

Examples of organisations ineligible for funding under Child Protection Week Grants are:

  • Government organisations (e.g Department of Education Training and the Arts, Queensland Health), Local Government authorities (e.g. City Councils).
  • Organisations applying for funding for a project that already has funding from another source.
  • Organisations having a previous Child Protection Week Activity Grant that has reached the acquittal stage, but have not provided a satisfactory performance report.
  • The following activities do not fall under child protection and are not eligible for grants (bullying, water safety, car safety)

Examples of events previously held:

  • Family Fun Days with information on local services to support children and families who have experienced abuse and neglect, or are at risk
  • Education sessions providing information on child abuse and neglect services provided directly to children and families
  • Art exhibitions showcasing works which capture the theme Protecting Children is Everybodys Business
  • Professional development sessions for those working in the Child Protection sector (excludes mandatory training)
  • Family movie events with stands providing information on local child protection services
  • Educational safety sessions targeted at keeping Children and Young People safe online (excludes cyber bullying)
  • Community Events which promote Child Protection Week Key Messages

Lodgement
